Antonio Tajani, vicepresidente della Commissione europea e commissario della Politica europea dei trasporti che ha incontrato gli ideatori di Pipenet Franco Cotana e Federico Rossi, docenti dell’Università of Perugia, has defined the network as the "fifth transport system of the future", after that road, sea, rail and air, designed to connect high-speed capillary Europe and "to carry light goods - says Cotana - replacing many traditional systems that are also dangerous because of accidents and deaths on the road. "
Saving energy and economic
PIPEnet addition to speed the system ensures energy and cost savings: "The goods will travel at speeds of up to 1500 km / h - adds Cotana - while the energy consumption, equal to t of cargo carried, are reduced by 70% compared to the road by 50% compared to rail and 90% compared to air transport, reducing CO2 emissions. " The costs of infrastructure deployment, subsequent to the stages of start-up technology, are less than one million euro per kilometer, which is extremely low compared to other transport infrastructure.
No environmental impact
The system can also be made on the surface, alongside works by reusing existing infrastructure is already in use such as paths, rail, bridges and tunnels. "Another detail - explains Rossi - is the possibility of laying submarine that could lead to strategic connections over long distances (eg Palermo - Naples - Genoa, Bari - Ancona - Trieste, etc.). The agreement to build the network PIPEnet was signed in 2005 at the headquarters of Finmeccanica, including the University of Perugia el'Arnaldo Breda. The prototype was shown this morning with representatives of the European Union "has funded - have given Rossi Cotana - 500 000 € for the first phase of the project that foresees the completion of a section of 70 meters of pipes PIPEnet, as a field test at Terni. The tube has a capacity of propulsion, in fact has a linear electric motor magnetic suspension with no aerodynamic drag, obtained by extraction.
How
Within the travel of the capsules containing tubular goods which can reach up to 50 kilograms and 200 liters in volume, or 70% of the goods is now being carried on conventional infrastructure networks. "As a first step - clear Cotana - PIPEnet the system will connect the centers of the major freight carriers. The development of the network instead provides long submarine that is connected by land, with no environmental impact, easy, cheap and fast implementation because the tube diameter is about one meter.
